Welcome New Teacher-Danielle Chilcott

The Natoma High School web design class asked several questions to get to know our new teacher, Danielle Chilcott. 2022 marks Danielle's first year of teaching Agriculture and being an FFA Advisor. She went to Fort Hays State University. Her inspiration to teach came when she was in high school, "I was a junior in high school when I was at a state 4-H event and they were talking about FFA. I went back to school and started talking with my science teacher about getting an FFA program. I saw the need for this because half of the students in my high school grew up or worked at a farm. When I took this to my principal he was for it because of the hands-on experience. Once senior year started my science teacher asked me to teach the pig unit and that was when I knew I wanted to go to school to be a teacher." She wanted to come to Natoma because,"My boyfriend is originally from Natoma. His grandparents own the feedlot west of town, so this is where we decided to settle down. I also really enjoy 4 day school weeks. We had them when I was in high school" she told us. Danielle is originally from Leon, KS which is located near Wichita. Teaching was not Danielle's first passion,"I originally was going to be a 4-H extension agent. Until I realized that I wanted to be around students and watch them learn about new things each day. I also like that I would have summers off." Her favorite subjects to learn in school were math and chemistry. Her ideal age group to teach are middle and high school students. Her initial reaction to Natoma's small class sizes was that she told her boyfriend that she went to a small school only to be surprised that he went to an even smaller school than her.
