4th Grade Students “Read Across America”
In an effort to celebrate Read Across America Day on March 2nd, the fourth grade students read books and poems that helped them “travel” to various states. All year, they have been studying the different geographical regions of the United States, so this was an excellent way to integrate Reading and Social Studies. The students brought in pillows, blankets, flashlights, and a book or poem that was from a particular state or region of the U.S. They also welcomed three guest readers who helped the class reach their goal of reading at least one book from every region! Even with the limited time of a half day of school, the fourth graders met their goal and read books from all six regions of the United States and covered 26 individual states!
