City Clean-up Day

The Natoma High School, Junior High, and Elementary students made the city look great to celebrate Earth Day. Students and faculty picked up trash, trimmed and removed branches, cleaned and painted city buildings, collected old appliances and furniture, and worked at the baseball field. All of the activities were successful in improving our city.

This project has been supported by a grant from  Dane G. Hansen Community Clean-Up Grants a fund at the Greater Salina Community Foundation.
The mission of the Greater Salina Community Foundation is to build permanent endowment funds and meet charitable community needs. Since 1999, the Community Foundation has partnered with donors to award over $50 million in grants to increase the capacity of nonprofits and make a difference in the greater Salina area. The Greater Salina Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity.

The Natoma City Wide Clean-Up was held on April 25, 2017. Many groups participated in the event. Volunteers that worked that day included children from USD #399 from grade school through high school. Many of the staff from USD #399 helped supervise and work with the school children. City employees, members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Natoma PRIDE, the  Natoma Community Library, and 4-H youth and leaders all participated in the event.

The clean-up event included: painting water well house #5, painting the wastewater pump station, picking up branches that residents left curbside. trash pick-up along Highway !8,  dumpsters provided to dispose of large items, pick-up of metal and appliances, vehicle pick-up, and disposal of tires. Volunteers helped clean and wash windows at the City Hall and American Legion. Clean-up was also performed at the Natoma Community Library.

Grant funds were provided by a Dane G Hansen Community  Clean Up grant. This allowed rental of a lift to trim trees along the streets. It also provided drinks and meals for those volunteering that day.
