Tigers Reach First Round of Sub

by Brynae Thompson

October 29, 2009

On Saturday, October 24, the Lady Tigers traveled to Ransom, Kansas for their second consecutive year playing at the Sub-State level. Their competitor was Wheatland-Grinnell. The first set of the match was a nail biter as the final score of the set was 20-25 with Wheatland-Grinnell winning.  During the second set of the match, the Tigers came out struggling. When Wheatland-Grinnell was just one point away from claiming the victory, the Natoma Tigers stepped up their game.

Junior Bailey Pfortmiller was the server for the Tigers. Wheatland-Grinnell was paralyzed as they couldn’t set up the serve successfully, and they made the little mistakes that cost them points. When the Tigers regained composure, and the scoreboard read 17-24, Pfortmiller’s serve landed out of bounds ended the match, 17-25, a disappointing way to end an otherwise successful 2009 season for the Lady Tigers.

Leading scorers of the match were Pfortmiller with 5 blocks, Senior Eastin Casey with 8 assists, Junior Monteene Barth, with 3 digs, and Senior Brynae Thompson with 5 kills.
