Spring break is
over and I trust that everyone had a great time of
relaxation before we head into the last eight weeks of
school. With that said, I must look back a bit and reflect
on some of the success that we have had at Natoma High in
the last month. We’ll begin with the Journalism team that
qualified five students for state. Those five students are
Morgan McNeal, Eastin Casey, Sandra Richmond, Rebekah
Hachmeister, and Matt Mehlwitz. They will go to Lawrence in
May to compete at state Journalism. Out in the Ag Shop we
also had some state calibur performances. The welding team
of Morgan McNeal, Justin Theleman, Clint Griffin, Jared
Lyle, Jason Beisner, Arthur Thompson and Josh Engling placed
first in welding and 6th overall in the Goodland Ag
Mechanics Competition. The boys basketball team, as we all
know, qualified for state for the first time in 32 years. I
will never forget that Sub-State championship gameagainst
Kensington as I am sure |
all the players, coaches, and
parents can testify to the same thing. It was a special
night and a special week. Congratulations again to Coach
Crawford, Coach Labertew and all the boys on being a member
of the elite 8 in 1A basketball. Our school has gone to
state this year in Cross Country, Scholars Bowl, Boys
Basketball, Journalism, and Ag Mechanics. I feel this shows
how talented and well rounded our student body is. I am so
proud of all of them.
State assessments are up and running at the 7-12 building, so let’s
make sure the students are getting a good nights rest and a
healthy breakfast. All the state competition appearances in
the world mean nothing if we are not learning something in
the classroom, so let’s do our best and show what we know on
these state tests. With all this said, the days are getting
longer and the weather is getting warmer so everyone get out
and enjoy the sunshine and warm weather, it won’t be long
until it’s too hot to enjoy it! |

Superintendent’s Notes |
Wow!! What a very fast, fun, and exciting month of March we
have had! The time has flown so fast this year it is hard to
believe that we are already talking end of the year
activities at the school.
Congratulations to Coach Crawford and Labertew and the Tiger
basketball team on their very exciting season! That was an
unbelievable ride that I hope everyone enjoyed! I would like
to personally thank the cheerleaders and community for their
support of our basketball team. We received some very good
news that our school received one of the Sportsmanship
Certificates from the 1A State Basketball Tournament! I was
blown away by the amount of fans that we had at Gross
Memorial Coliseum. This shows us all that we have a great
amount of tradition and pride in our school! WAY TO GO TIGER
FANS!
We have been working on our district Crisis Plan |
over the
past few months. We had a chance to run our plan and there
are still some bugs to work out but it was very helpful. The
staff and students performed very well during the drill. I
would like to thank all of the committee members for their
hard work and input on this project. Members of the
committee are Keith Koelling, Scott Becker, Dale Eickhoff,
Kevin Eickhoff, Jerry Schrandt, Shawna Dunlap, Michelle
Mathews, Roy Hockett, Titus Staples, and Aaron Homburg.
We have been gearing up for assessments and they are finally here.
The students and staff have put in a lot of time and hard
work preparing for these tests so we hope to do very well on
them. I hope you all take the time to visit with your
student about their assessment test.
I hope you all have an enjoyable April and before long it will be
May. If you have any questions please feel free to call me. |
Educationally Yours,
Aaron Homburg
