 Why Attend:   You will need to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application for financial aid for your  
 student.  A representative from the Financial Aid office at Fort Hays State University will be here to give the presentation and answer
 questions.

***NEW***  AXA Achievement Community Scholarship Program
Criteria:  An AXA Achiever must demonstrate:
    * ambition and drive
    * determination to set and reach goals
    * respect for self, family and community
    * ability to succeed in college

National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship (from November/December bulletin)
Requirements:  Senior with a 3.0 GPA
Criteria:  Students must pursue a degree from an accredited post-secondary institution, support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports, school involvement with activities, demonstrate leadership, community involvement, have a current hunting license.
Amount: Local Winner= $250; State=$1,000; National=$10,000
Each local winner will receive $250 from the State and the local will match it for a total of $500

VFW Endowment Scholarship (from November/December bulletin)
Eligibility:  Graduating H.S. Senior or current college student
Criteria:  Have an active parent or grandparent in the VFW and provide the VFW Post number or Ladies Auxiliary number, show strong extra-curricular involvement, have demonstrated community involvement, and solid academics
**Family financial status is crucial and you must provide financial information.
Award:  $500-$2,000
Application: You may get a copy of the application by going to http://www.ksvfw.org or you may get an application from Ms. Murphy
Deadline:  To be submitted to Topeka by February 1, 2008. Local application to be submitted by January 1, 2008.  See Ms. Murphy for Application.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship (Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club) (from November/December bulletin)
Scholarship is available on-line from November 1st through January 12th, 2008. High school seniors need to logon to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information. These students will apply for the Sam Walton Community Scholarship on-line at www.scholarshipadministrators.net  Applicants must use the access code (SWCS) to complete the application—THERE ARE NO PAPER APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE!
DEADLINE: January 12th, See Ms. Murphy for further information.
Amount: Non-renewable $1,000 for 1st year of undergraduate study at accredited college or university
Eligible: HS Senior graduate and you may not be a Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club associate, or the child of an associate.

The Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship
The Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship payable over one year offered to graduating high school seniors employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. This scholarship is also available to children of Associates who are considered ineligible for the Walton Family Foundation Scholarship, due to parent's length of employment, or less than full-time employment status.
APPLICATIONS:
Additional requirements for eligibility are listed on the program applications obtained on Pipeline, the WIRE, or from your Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUBS Personnel Manager.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRY:
All applications must be postmarked no later than February 1 to the Wal-Mart Foundation at 702 SW 8th Street, Bentonville, AR 72716-0150. No exceptions will be made for late entries.


The Walton Family Foundation Scholarship—Wal-Mart
The Walton Family Foundation Scholarship is a $10,000 scholarship payable over four years. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors in order to qualify. All applicants must be the children/legal dependents of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Associates who have been employed full time (32 hours per week or more) for at least one year as of February 1.
APPLICATIONS:
Additional requirements for eligibility are listed on the program applications obtained on Pipeline, the WIRE, or from your Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUBS Personnel Manager.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRY:

ESA Foundation Scholarship


Requirements for High School Senior:  A senior high school student with a minimum GPA of 3.0, OR have a minimum ACT score of 22 or minimum SAT score of 1030
Selection Criteria:  Character, Leadership, Service, Financial Need, Scholastic Ability, and Special Criteria - set by donor.
Applicant must be one of the following:
1. A senior high school student who will be an incoming college freshman student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
on a 4.0 scale, OR a minimum score of ACT 22 / SAT [verbal/critical reading and math] 1030;
2. A College student presently enrolled in an accredited college or university who has maintained a “B” average
[3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale] during his/her college career;
3. Enrolled for training in a technical school or any person returning to school after an absence to retrain job
skills or obtain a degree. [Post secondary students at any educational level].
4. On-line credit tuition when obtained through and Accredited College/University/Vocational school or an
accredited program by an accredited agency.
Amount:  Varies by choice of endowment or scholarship and major. You can choose more than one scholarship
too apply for—be aware that you will be asked to provide information for each one. You may apply for no more than 3 of the scholarships.  Application is lengthy and demanding.

Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program
(Sponsors: Monsanto and National Assoc. of Farm Broadcasters)
Eligibility:  High School Senior enrolled in the U.S., have family actively engaged in production agriculture, family members can not be employees of the sponsors, have an average to above average academics, ACT composite minimum of 18, and plan to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4 yr. College, university, or vocational-technical school, and plan on pursuing a career in agriculture.
Amount:  100 ($1,500) scholarships nationwide.

KU - HIXSON OPPORTUNITY AWARD


Eligibility:  specifically designed for students who have faced significant personal or financial hardship. Must be a resident of Kansas. Must be admissible to KU. Must be an entering Freshman. Must demonstrate financial eligibility from the FAFSA application.
Awards:  10 awards of $5,000 with renewal every year for a total of $20,000

Pittsburgh State University Dean’s Scholarship and General Scholarship Info.
*The Dean’s Scholarship is awarded to all incoming freshman who are in the top 15% of their class after the 7th semester. Amount is for $500 to those that simply apply to Pittsburgh State. The general deadline for all scholarships at Pitt State is Feb 1st. You can apply online at www.pittstate.edu/scholarships/ 

Kansas Breaking Traditions Scholarship (Regional and Statewide Competition)
Eligibility:  For Students in Training for Non-Traditional Occupations
Defined Occupations:  Females= Horticulture Specialty Farmers, Auto Body and related repairers, firefighters, drafters, and telephone installers and repairers. Males= Dieticians, Bank Tellers, Financial Records Processing, Legal Assistants, Dental Assistants, Hairdressers and Cosmetologists
Award:  Possibilities of $500 and $250 Scholarships
Deadline:  February 1st, 2008. Interested students should apply directly to:

AWARD ONLY!!—Epsilon Sigma Alpha International “OUTSTANDING SENIOR HIGH YOUTH AWARD”
This is an award only. There is no scholarship money with this.
Criteria for selection:  OUTSTANDING CHARACTER, LEADERSHIP & SKILLS, & SCHOLASTIC ABILITY!!! Top 25% of class, 3.0 GPA, 20 ACT.
Application:  Provide (3) letters of recommendation, write and essay.
Deadline:  March 1st BUT—materials need to be turned into Ms. Murphy by February 1st, 2008

There are many others available for a dependent or descendant of a Veteran. Family members involved in certain units can also apply for scholarships. Ted and Nora Anderson Scholarship
High School Senior who is average or better academically and is the son or daughter of a veteran; parents must have been a member of the Kansas American Legion or Auxiliary for the past 3 years. Applicant may also be the son or daughter of a deceased member whose membership was paid up in the year of death.
Amount: up to (4) $500 scholarships, $250 to be paid at the start of each semester.

Charles W. & Annette Hill Scholarship
High School Senior who has a 3.0 GPA. Consideration is given to those applicants desiring to engage in the fields of Science, Engineering, or Business Administration. Applicant must be a descendant of a member of the American Legion.
Amount: $1,000 scholarship, $500 at the beginning of each semester.

John & Geraldine Hobble Licensed Practical Nursing Scholarship
Grant award of $300 (payable once) at the start of the 1st semester.  This scholarship will be awarded only upon acceptance and verification of enrollment by the scholarship winner in an accredited Kansas school, which awards a diploma for Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN).
Applicant must have attained the age of 18 prior to taking the Kansas State Board Exam. Awarded to an individual who is qualified and in need of financial aid.

Albert M. Lappin Scholarship
High School Senior who is average or better academically and is the son or daughter of a veteran; parents must have been a member of the Kansas American Legion or Auxiliary for the past 3 years. Applicant may also be the son or daughter of a deceased member whose membership was paid up in the year of death.
Amount: $1,000 scholarship, $500 to be paid at the start of each semester.

Music Committee Scholarship
A $1,000 scholarship, payable over 2 semesters, available to all Kansas high school Seniors, college level freshman or sophomores who have distinguished themselves in the field of music and/or will major in music at an approved Kansas junior college, college or university.

Rosedale Post 346 Scholarships
High School Senior who is average or better academically and is the son or daughter of a veteran; parents must have been a member of the Kansas American Legion or Auxiliary for the past 3 years. Applicant may also be the son or daughter of a deceased member whose membership was paid up in the year of death.
Amount: (2) $1,500 Scholarships, $750 will be paid at the start of each semester.

Scouting Scholarship
Available at all levels of scouting. Very competitive; generally an Eagle scout named as the “American Legion Scout of the Year. Deadline:  February 15th   See Ms. Murphy for application.

Shooting Sports Scholarship
Grant award of $500, paid over 2 semesters. Applicants must be a Kansas senior or college level freshman, who has participated in an American Legion Shooting Sports program in the State and Regional levels. Must also be an average or better student scholastically.

Hugh A Smith Scholarship Fund
High School Senior who is average or better academically and is the son or daughter of a veteran; parents must have been a member of the Kansas American Legion or Auxiliary for the past 3 years. Applicant may also be the son or daughter of a deceased member whose membership was paid up in the year of death.
Amount: (1) $500 scholarship.

American Legion Baseball Leadership
Awarded per state by National Headquarters to an American Legion certified baseball player whose name appears on the American Legion Baseball’s Form #1 that has been filed with the National Headquarters.
Amount:  $1,000

Dr. “Click” Cowger Baseball Scholarship
Student who has participated in the Kansas American Legion Baseball program.
Amount:  $500 paid directly to the school in which the recipient enrolls

Paul Flaherty Athletic Scholarship
Awarded to a high school boy or girl who has participated in High School activities.
Amount:  $250 grant with $125.00 to be paid at the start of each semester.

Kansas Assoc. of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers “Quality Leadership” Scholarship The application may be accessed at: www.kacrao.org  Look under the Info for HS Students link on the homepage.
Eligibility: Be in Senior year at a Kansas high school, Have a cumulative 7th Semester GPA of at least a 3.25, Have a minimum ACT composite score of 22, and Provide Evidence of leadership experience.
Deadline:  Submit completed application postmarked no later than Feb. 15th, 2008
Award:  2- ($500) scholarships
Note:  The first 250 complete applications will be considered for this award.

Kansas Assoc. of Directors of Plant Facilities Scholarship
Eligibility: only available to seniors whose parent(s) are custodial workers.  Student must be a resident of Kansas and graduate from a Kansas High School.
Criteria: Must attend a Kansas college. Simple Application.
Award: (1) $500 scholarship

Best Buy Scholarships
Eligibility:  Senior who exhibits strong academic achievement and community service who will be entering an accredited university, college or vo-tech immediately following their high school graduation.
Award:  3 seniors from each U.S. Congressional District in the U.S. will receive scholarships from $1,000-$2,000
Deadline:  February 15, 2008. To Apply go to www.bestbuy.com/Scholarships  Applications will be received online from January 1 until February 15.

Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling Scholarship
Eligibility:  Graduating Senior from Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma
Criteria:  Submission of an essay, but to be eligible you must have an ACT score in the range of 20-28.
Award:  1 ($1,000) scholarship to one student in each state.
Deadline:  Feb 15th, 2008 Application can be found on-line at www.gpacac.net and attach a personal essay. Notify Ms. Murphy if interested because of the verification form required for you.

USA Today All-USA High School Academic Team
Eligibility:  Any High School Senior
Criteria:  Major weight is given to student’s with outstanding original academic, artistic, or leadership endeavors. Must submit a 500 words or less essay describing your endeavors. See Ms. Murphy for complete Details or visit www.allstars.usatoday.com  Deadline is Feb. 24th, 2008
Amount:  (20) $2500 scholarships

Who’s Who Among American High School Students- Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation
Processing Fee:  $4.00
Selection:  The very brief Application is due on February 24th. Semifinalists will be notified by March 9th and asked to provide limited data on financial status to determine level of need and will also be asked to respond to an essay question.

US Bank Scholarships
U.S. Bank will award up to 30 ($1,000) scholarships to seniors planning to attend 2-yr or 4-yr college full time next fall. Scholarship award recipients are selected through a random drawing process. Students can apply online by visiting the Web site at www.usbank.com/studentbanking

James A. Todd Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility:  Kansas Firefighters (paid, part-paid. or volunteer) and immediate family members who will be attending college full-time.
Award:  2 ($600) Scholarships.

PRIMO Scholarships
Eligibility:  Any Male/Female (undergraduate) who will attend an accredited Kansas university, college, or technical school.
**Preference is given to: Marketing, Public Relations, or Telecommunications related fields.
Award:  3- ($500) Scholarships. Distribution will be given out upon submittal of college class registration and schedule.

Wells Fargo CollegeSTEPS Scholarship Sweepstakes
This is a reminder of the Wells Fargo give away of 100 scholarships for $1000 each for college or technical training. Winners are chosen through random monthly drawings from October through May. To register students simply need to log on to www.wellsfargo.com/collegesteps  By doing so students are registered for the drawings and they will receive monthly e-postcards with helpful college prep information. The program is completely free and your name and information does not get sold out to other companies.

You still have time to complete the on-line Scholarship Application, and there are a lot of them still available with this February Deadline—DON’T DELAY!!! This is a reminder to ask individuals for references in plenty of time to have them completed.  Most individuals will not mind doing this for you if you give them enough time.

Awards

Students need to be accepting every scholarship awarded to them—regardless of whether they are going to attend that school or not. Accepting the award does not tie you in any way to that institution. If you have been awarded scholarship money, you need to make a copy of the letter that you received and give it to Ms. Murphy. Please keep me informed of the awards that you are receiving so that I can make sure it is announced at awards night.
